Liam Devitt is a freelance writer and historian.

Liam (they/them) writes on labour, queer issues, and pop culture, and the odd places where they intersect. They come to journalism as a grizzled student paper vet, with all the brain worms to prove it. Now, their byline can be found in Jacobin, THIS, and Briarpatch, giving thrilling reportage, analysis—and most importantly, hot takes—on everything from anti-Thatcher pop music to lecturers’ unions.

Liam’s historical work is focused on deindustrialization and queer youth in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They undertake this work as a part of their MA in History at Concordia University, where they are affiliated with Deindustrialization and the Politics of Our Time (DePOT), a transnational research partnership. Broadly, their research interests include postwar Canada, queer activism, trade unionism, and new histories of deindustrialization. Liam has and continues to work as a public queer historian, in and out of museums.

They are one half of queer food podcast A Queered Taste, a playful romp through the surprisingly expansive world of queer cookbooks.

From Mohkinstsis (Calgary), currently, they are based in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal).
